Choose for your course

Start with the course you are actually taking: general, organic, analytical, inorganic or physical chemistry. These books are not interchangeable. Check whether your course assumes calculus, physics or prior chemistry, and use its assigned edition when chapter numbers matter.

Suggested reading approach

  1. For each topic, connect particle-level models to equations, units and observable measurements. Work the assigned problems instead of relying on reaction summaries alone.
  2. In organic chemistry, explain electron movement and reaction conditions before memorizing products. In quantitative courses, keep a separate list of assumptions and significant figures.
