Business: choose the function before the framework

Editorial guidance for university students, with independent learners in mind. This is not an official university reading plan. Check your own syllabus before buying; editions and exercise numbers differ.

Choose for your course

Business courses may focus on accounting, finance, marketing, operations or management. Start from the course outcome and your quantitative preparation. A finance text will not teach marketing strategy, and an MBA case course is not automatically the right level for an undergraduate class.

Suggested reading approach

  1. Connect each framework to a decision: what information is needed, what trade-off is being made and how success is measured.
  2. For finance, accounting and analytics, work the numerical exercises. For strategy and marketing, compare the assumptions behind a case with the evidence available.
